Last summer I came across Mary who authors the blog A Grumpy Bunny after googling “canine nasal tumor”. Like me Mary also had a Golden Retriever that had a nasal tumor. Sadly we both buried our beloved dogs several months later.

Mary has come across a dog in need at a local rescue shelter. She has asked me to share his story with you since she knows I’m not above whoring out my blog.

Reign is a beautiful 18 month old German Shepard. He has a badly broken front leg from being hit by a car when he was 3 months old. He never received the medical care he desperately needed to repair his painfully broken bones.

It breaks my heart to think about how much pain he has endured in his short life and all at the hands of his irresponsible owner. After all he has been through he deserves a chance for a better life and surgery by an experienced Orthopedic Veterinarian, costing approximately $4,500.00 will possibly save his leg and end his pain and suffering once and for all.

This may seem like a lot to spend on a dog to some but I spent just about this much seeking a diagnosis and treatment last summer for my beloved Sonny. That’s how much I love animals.

If you are also a dog owner then I want to make a plea for your help to get Reign his much needed surgery and a chance for a better life. It would be one of those random acts of kindness I wrote about on Monday.

Please consider making a donation. Whatever you can give even if it’s $1. Every bit helps. The shelter has received $1000 in pledges already.

You can mail your donation to:

Animal General
C/O Donna Jiricek
35 Brookville Lane
Glen Head, N.Y. 11545-2301

or if you prefer PayPal I have a Chip In widget in my sidebar. I will match whatever I raise in my Chip In.

Thanks for your time.

What a sweetheart! Our female dog is a 10 year-old Corgi/German Shepherd mix. Her leg was also broken as a puppy and it permanently curves out, but not this bad.

You are a kind soul for spreading the word about Reign!

I’m making a small donation. Way smaller than I would like, I’d love to be able to just pay for his surgery. :( I hate to see any animal suffering.

You are so good for helping out a fellow dog lover. I hope this helps poor Reign get the surgery he needs. Thanks!

Having a German Shepherd and losing him to cancer in December, this is close to my heart. I have posted on my blog to encourage my readers to make a donation and my check is in the mail since my PayPal account wouldn’t work. I just wanted to thank you for spreading the word!

I made a donation! For some reason, I could only remember the password for the BF’s papyal account, so look for that.

This sort of thing makes me so sad.

I just gave to a shelter here in NC after they had a story in the paper about a stray dog who would not leave the side of his dead canine friend. Very sad.

Luckily, through the kindness of strangers, this dog was placed in a loving home and had a surplus of donations for his medical needs.

Good luck with Reign. You are sweet to care so much. What a kind soul you are.

BTW, totally off the subject (sorry) but you have Skype???? I do too! Perhaps we should chat some night! ;-)

Delurking to let you know that your entry on random acts of kindness really had an effect on me after a bad week. I’m glad you’re promoting the chance to help such a sweet pupper like Reign. I was more than happy to donate!

    Hey lady,

Made a small donation. Did you hear the news from the HSMO recently? A person threw two dogs over an overpass! How could someone do that?!? One dog was a german shepard and the other was a golden. The golden was hurt but ran away. They are still looking for it. The other dog had alot of broken bones and was in horrific pain. The HSMO had to put him down. Don’t understand how people can do this sort of thing.

But that’s not most people. SO thanks for doing this for Reign-dog. Lots of puppy kisses for YOU! :-)

Thank you for helping to spread the word about Reign!

As someone who loves the German Shepherd breed–as well as an all-around dog lover–I’ll be doing all that I can to help bring as much attention to Reign’s plight as possible.

Thank you again for posting about him!

Since Reign can’t thank you, I will. Thank you for posting this! It’s so sad when an animal has to suffer needlessly.

I have a soft spot for German Shepherds. . . my best friend growing up was my dog, Heidi, who was a German Shepherd/Collie mix. Reign is beautiful; good for you for helping out. You always do such nice things, Kristie.
